Donald Trump Rallies in Corinth, Mississippi Tonight for Cindy Hyde-Smith as Her Senate Race Suddenly Turns Competitive

President Donald Trump heads to Corinth, Mississippi, tonight for a campaign rally in support of Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, one week before the November 3 midterm elections — and in a state where his own approval has slipped to a record low.

The rally takes place at Crossroads Arena, 2800 S. Harper Road, in Corinth, in the northeast corner of the state. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. CDT, the program begins at 4:30 p.m., and Trump is scheduled to deliver remarks at 6 p.m. CDT (7 p.m. ET). Attendees must register in advance, with a maximum of four tickets per sign-up, and registration is not complete until the person replies to a confirmation text. The U.S. Secret Service will screen all guests, and attendees are strongly encouraged not to bring bags, including clear bags.

A race that Washington suddenly cares about

Hyde-Smith faces Democrat Scott Colom, a district attorney, and Independent Ty Pinkins. Mississippi has long been a Republican stronghold — Trump won the state with more than 60% of the vote in 2024 and has carried it all three times he has appeared on its ballot — but polling shows the Senate contest becoming more competitive, and national Democrats have poured in support for Colom.

Former President Barack Obama released an ad backing Colom, Senators Cory Booker and Raphael Warnock have held campaign events alongside him, and former Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned for him in his native Columbus on October 22. Colom has called the Trump visit proof that Republicans are worried, nicknaming the senator "Cindy High Prices" and saying she is calling on Trump because she is afraid of questions about her record.

Trump endorsed Hyde-Smith in March 2025, calling her "100% MAGA," and he campaigned for her in Mississippi in 2018 as well. Republican National Committee Chair Joe Gruters said the visit is about turnout: "This president knows how to turn out these low propensity voters. And the midterms, historically, it's all about turnout."

Approval underwater at home

The rally comes as Trump's approval ratings slide even in friendly territory. Civiqs data shows that as of October 20, only 42% of Mississippi respondents approve of the president's job performance, while 52% disapprove — underwater in a state he won by about 23 points in 2024, and a record low for him there across both his terms.

National polls released last week showed similar declines: a New York Times/Siena University poll put his approval at 34%, CNN/SSRS at 32%, and Fox News at 36%.

Trump arrives in Mississippi a day after campaigning in Michigan for Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, who is locked in a tight race with Democrat Abdul El-Sayed. The president attacked El-Sayed in unusually personal terms there, calling him a "jihadist," a remark El-Sayed rejected and some Arab American Trump supporters criticized.
